To manufacture its products, John Lewis Industries uses exclusively Eastern Canadian White Birch primary because of its color, rigidity and its neutrality of smell and taste.

FOREST MANAGEMENT AND CERTIFICATION

John Lewis Industries manages its forestry resources responsibly by adapting its harvesting methods to the characteristics of each area and ensuring replanting of trees after harvest. We impose on ourselves strict adherence to the principle of exploitation on a sustained yield basis thus ensuring our permanent presence in La Tuque. John Lewis Industries is part of the Groupe Rémabec inc. and its raw material is harvested via the rebec subsidiary that conducts forest operations in areas of the côte Nord, Lac-St-Jean and Mauricie. To ensure we maintain sound environmental and forestry practices, the Goupe Rémabec inc. has its environmental management system based on the environmental standard ISO 14001: 2004 In addition, Lewis serves as a member applicant for certification to the standard Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) - Mauricie National Boreal Standard. Our company currently uses a portion of its raw material that is harvested from forest management units (UAF) located in the Mauricie certified under the FSC standard.

FULL UTILISATION OF THE RAW MATERIAL

John Lewis Industries uses all the residues of the logs brought to the plant.

As an example bark is used as a fuel to generate steam for plant operations.
